Golden Flashes conduct second scrimmage

By admin Published: August 20, 2009

The Kent State football team had their second scrimmage of training camp last night at Dix Stadium.  As Dave Carducci reports, the offensive line struggled and is missing center Chris Anzevino who is out with an infection in his foot.  Anzevino could be on the field by the end of the week.  With the offensive line playing especially poor in the running game, Eugene Jarvis only managed 17 yards on 8 carries and Andre Flowers had 9 yards on 6 carries.  With pressure in his face, Giorgio Morgan went 9-21 for 80 yards during the scrimmage.

Scrimmage Notes...

- True freshman Darius Polk had a 50 yard kickoff return on Wednesday but broke his clavicle on the play and could be out of action for six weeks.

- Place kicker Freddy Cortez went 5-7 on field goals on Wednesday, with one kick blocked.  "The thing I was really pleased with was our kicking game ," Doug Martin said. "Freddy Cortez, he's been really consistent; won himself a job."

- Danny Sadler and Luke Batton both intercepted a pass on Wednesday.

- Sophomore RB Jacquise Terry has been moved to wide receiver for the season.  The move could open the door for freshman Dri Archer to contribute.  On Wednesday Archer led all rushers with 65 yards on 15 carries.
