I have also received confirmation from a source that freshman walk on Jordan Wilds is no longer on the team either. The Flashes will have 11 bodies to dress for the rest of the season as Justin Manns redshirts and Brian Frank sits out after transferring from Wooster.
Greg Avila to transfer
Dave Carducci on his blog has confirmed what rumors were swirling to me from some other sources that Kent State men's basketball forward Greg Avila will transfer to another school to find more playing time.
Here is the excerpt from the Record Courier blog...
Greg Avila has decided to transfer. I talked to Geno Ford this afternoon, and he said Avila is leaving on good terms. According to Ford, Avila said he likes being at Kent State and likes the team, but he is used to playing major minutes and so far he hasn’t been able to beat out the guys ahead of him at the four and five. He scored seven points and had six rebounds. I like Avila. I think he has the physical ability to play at this level. He’s just had a very difficult time adjusting to the Kent State system and to what it takes beyond the physical tools to play at for KSU. With some guys it takes time. Frank Henry-Ala was able to learn the system faster, but it took him some time to adjust to the Division I level. He didn’t have a big impact as a junior but now he is a key contributor as a senior. In fact, he is one of the most consistent players on the team. KSU always knows what kind of effort it will get from him. Avila is a bit of a different story. He wants to play more, but the pace at which he is learning, the emergence of Justin Greene and the addition of a few recruits at his position who may be more capable of stepping in and playing right away mean there are no guarantees. Look for Avila to land at another school – possibly Division II – where he can expect more minutes.
