Hoops quick notes
For those of you wondering where this year’s basketball schedule is just hold tight. It is on its way. I was told today that there is one date still holding up its release. It is St. Mary’s if I remember correctly.
As soon as that is finalized the schedule will be good to go. You can count on seeing St. Mary’s, Kansas, Temple, UNC-Wilmington and Hampton on this year’s slate. The Flashes will also play either Texas A&M or Tulsa, depending on who wins early in the San Padre Invitational.
RECRUITING UPDATE
The Flashes have also locked up another player for 2009-2010 by getting an early commitment from Bedford point guard Randall Holt.
Holt joins Greg Avila, a 6-foot-5 forward from the Bronx, as the only two commitments this far. Bedford teammate Robert Johnson, a power-forward, still could land with the Flashes as well.
It will be kind of interesting to see how the scholarships fall next season. By my uneducated account Kent State will have four scholarships coming off the books with Al Fisher, Jordan Mincy, Rashad Woods and Julian Sullinger all graduating. I am fairly sure they are all full scholarship kids, but I need to double check that.
Anyways, two slots are filled with Avila and Holt. How will Geno Ford use the final two? Does one go to Tyree Evans? Something to think about.
COACHING STAFF SET
I thought it was set already until Mike Brown decided to jump at the opportunity left at Motlow when new assistant coach Bobby Steinburg came here.
Nonetheless Ford announced the hiring of Jaden Uken as director of basketball operations. It was announced at the beginning of the month.
Uken comes to KSU after spending two seasons as an assistant at Chipola College in Florida
