NCAA UPHOLDS PENALTIES AGAINST SENDEROFF - The NCAA upheld penalties on Monday against Kent State Associate Head Coach Rob Senderoff for recruiting violations committed while he was at Indiana under Kelvin Sampson.
HISPANIC COLLEGE FUND CLASSICS - The opening Hispanic College Fund Classic that Kent State played in to open the season continues to look like a very positive thing for the Golden Flashes. Two of the opponents that KSU played in the tournament, UAB and Green Bay, are a combined 21-5 and hold wins over Kent State, Wisconsin, Butler, Cincinnati and Georgia. Kent State nearly beat Green Bay if not for a wild closing sequence that resulted in a buzzer beater. In addition, UAB's RPI is 24 and should be ranked in the top 25 after their defeat of Butler on Tuesday.
MORE RPI AND SOS TALK - While it is still early, and maybe won't mean much come the end of the season, Kent State has set themselves up with very respectable numbers in the ratings percentage index and strength of schedule. KSU's RPI is currently 62nd while the strength of schedule is 65th in the country. Only Buffalo (42) has a higher RPI than KSU, while Miami (12), Buffalo (30) and Western Michigan (55) have higher SOS's. Kent State has played three teams in the top 38 of the RPI currently.
