Kent State RB/KR Dri Archer named Walter Camp 1st Team All-American, finalist for Paul Hornung award

Dri Archer added a couple of big-time postseason accolades this week. 

Following Archer's record-breaking season that led the Golden Flashes to their first bowl   berth in 40 years, he was selected to Walter Camp's All-American First Team as a kick returner and 24 hours later, was named one of four finalists for the Paul Hornung award, given to the nation's most versatile player. 

Archer is the first player in Kent State history to make Walter Camp's All-American First Team (other players in school history have been All Americans, but didn't make Camp's First Team). He's the only player in the Mid-American Conference to receive the honor this season. His average of 38.2 yards per kick return leads the country and his three kick-return touchdowns puts him in a tie for the most in Division I. 

Arched joins Western Kentucky's Antonio Andrews, West Virginia's Tavon Austin and USC's Marqise Lee, who some thought could have been an outside contender for the Heisman had the Trojans taken down Notre Dame. 

Archer ran for 1,352 yards and 15 touchdowns, caught 35 passes for 539 yards and four touchdowns and had 573 return yards and three return touchdowns. He also threw for a 24-yard touchdown. He's the only player in the country to reach 1,300 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards. 

Only three players have scored more total touchdowns than Archer this season—Nevada's Stefphon Jefferson (23), West Virginia's Stedman Bailey (23)  Louisiana Tech's Kenneth Dixon (28).
