KSU Jr. NT Terhune named MAC Player of the Week; Archer & Pierce also honored

By Stephanie Storm Published: November 25, 2013

Kent State sophomore Nate Terhune was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week Monday following his performance in the Golden Flashes’ 44-13 win at Ohio Nov. 19th.

In the third quarter, the Chagrin Falls native lined up in the backfield on a punt formation, caught the snap and ran 61 yards for a touchdown to extend KSU's lead to 31-13. In the process, the 265-pound nose tackle hurdled over a Bobcat defender - a highlight that was featured on numerous national media outlets.

Terhune also made a key play on special teams in the first half, recovering an Ohio fumble on a punt attempt.  Defensively, he recorded a pair of tackles and a half tackle for loss.

What made Turhune's game-changing plays even more special is th fact that they came just eight weeks after he suffered a broken leg in a game earlier in the season.

* NOTE - Two other Kent State players earned weekly honors for their performance in last week's season finale.

Versatile senior Dri Archer ran for 138 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries and caught five passes for 53 yards. For his efforts, Archer was chosen as an All-Purpose Performer of the Week Honorable Mention from College Football Performance Awards and named MAC Offensive Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.

Junior Casey Pierce also was selected as the Tight End Performer of the Week Honorable Mention from College Football Performance Awards after he caught five passes for 51 yards and a touchdown against the Bobcats.

The Golden Flashes (4-8 overall, 3-5 in league play) won their final two games of the season by a combined score of 68-19, as KSU earned victories over its  southern Ohio rivals Miami and Ohio in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1986-87 season.
