KSU men's basketball lands Carlton Guyton

By admin Published: October 1, 2009

The Kent State men's basketball program has added Carlton Guyton to its 2010 recruiting class.  Guyton currently plays for Mineral Area Junior College in Missouri.  The 6-4 Chicago native was actively recruited by KSU assistant coach Armon Gates, who is becoming a rising star at recruiting, especially in his native Chicago area.  Last season at Mineral Area, Guyton averaged under six points a game but should receive a much bigger opportunity this season to showcase his talent.  At Rich South High School in Chicago, Guyton averaged 17.1 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game and 2.4 assists per game.  Guyton turned down an offer from Drake and cancelled a visit to Illinois State, the Record Courier reports.  The scouting report on Guyton from is that "he is a long and athletic shooting guard who is capable of getting points both with his jump shot, and also with his ability to slash to the basket."  Guyton joins Eric Gaines (Chicago), Kenny Knight (Cincinnati), Mark Henniger (Massillon) and Robert Johnson (Bedford) in the 2010 recruiting class.

The men's basketball team has posted their team picture from last week.

Steve Hare at the Kent Sports Report is reporting that RB Andre Flowers will not make the trip to Waco, Texas for Saturday night's game against Baylor.  Flowers is being held out with a shoulder injury.  That leaves Jacquise Terry, Dri Archer and Alan Vanderink on the depth chart at running back in that order.

The Baylor football program is counting on their improved depth to help overcome the loss of some injured players in Saturday's game and the rest of the season.

Saturday's game at Baylor can be seen on television on a regional basis in the FSN Big 12 footprint which includes FSN Southwest, FSN Houston, FSN Midwest, FCS Pacific and on Direct TV 678, Dish 449 and AT&T Uverse 755.  Cable viewers can see it on Fox College Sports - Pacific.  Got that?

The Kent State field hockey team gets back into action by traveling to Central Michigan on Friday and hosting Ohio on Sunday.  New Zealand native Debbie Bell leads the MAC with 11 goals scored.  Recently, The MAC Daily chatted with Bell on a podcast.

Kent State men's golfer Mackenzie Hughes has been named MAC Men's Golfer of the Week.  Hughes was the MAC Freshman of the Year last season.

The 'Inside Kent State Sports' show will take place from 6:00 to 7:00P.M. tonight at the Water Street Tavern in Kent.  If fans can't be there in person, they can listen at Fox Sports 1350 AM and
