KSU men's hoops squad to host Fairfield (Ct.) Tuesday in CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament

By Stephanie Storm Published: March 16, 2013

A day after accepting an invitation to host a first-round game in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, Kent State learned it will face a familiar opponent Tuesday night.

Two years after playing Kent State in the 2011 National Invitation Tournament, Fairfield (Ct.) is headed to Kent to take on the Golden Flashes (20-13) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the M.AC. Center.

Like Kent State, Fairfield (19-15) lost in its tournament’s semifinal round. Manhattan College topped the Staggs 60-42 March 10 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament after Fairfield had advanced by defeating Saint Peter’s (54-47) and Rider University (43-42).

The Flashes haven’t had as much time to adjust after just losing to rival Akron 62-59 Friday in the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena.

But Kent State coach Rob Senderoff doesn’t think the quick turnaround will be an issue for the Flashes.

“It certainly helps that we’re hosting the game,” Senderoff said. “So I think our players will be ready. We’ve got two seniors (guard Randal Holt and guard/forward Chris Evans) who don’t want their careers to end just yet and a bunch of underclassmen who will gain valuable experience in an additional pressure-situation game.”

Admission is free for all Kent State students. Others may purchase tickets to the game beginning Monday at 8:30 a.m. in person at the ticket office or by calling (330) 672-2244.
