KSU tops Bowling Green to clinch No. 4 seed in MAC Tournament

By Stephanie Storm Published: March 5, 2013

Senior guards Randal Holt and Chris Evans led four players in double-figure scoring as the Golden Flashes outlasted visiting Bowling Green 69-61 Tuesday night at the M.A.C. Center.

Holt finished with a game-high 16 points and Evans was just three assists away from KSU's first ever triple double, finsihing with 12 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Junior forward Darren Goodson contributed 12 points in 17 minutes and sophomore point guard Kris Brewer chipped in 11 points that included three 3-pointers.

The Flashes win, coupled with Ohio's victory over Buffalo, landed KSU a coveted No. 4 seed in next week's Mid-American Conference Tournament, which gives the Flashes a double bye into the third round at Quicken Loans Arena.

Kent State (18-12, 8-7 in the MAC) opened the game on a 12-2 run and had built a 17-point lead with 2:24 to go in the first half. But a few minutes of poor defense saw Bowling Green (12-18, 6-9) finish the half on an 11-0 run that whittled the Flashes lead to just six points - 35-29 - at halftime.

Bowling Green led only once - 58-57 - thanks to junior forward Craig Sealey's dunk with 7:28 to go in the game. But the Falcons lead was short lived, as the Flashes reponded with a 7-0 run and then sealed the victory at the free throw line in the waning seconds.

Kent State concludes the regular season Friday at rival Akron, which defeated Miami to win the MAC East Division title and claim the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament.
