KSU women play well, but still fall to rival Akron

The Kent State women's basketball team played one of its best games of the season Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the M.A.C. Center, but it still wasn't enough to earn its fourth victory of the season and knock off rival Akron.

Despite taking an early lead in the first half and then hanging with Akron (18-8, 9-4) for a majority of the game, the Zips opened a 10-point advantage and held tough during several KSU attempts to cut the deficit to more managible single-digits, securing a 77-71 victory.

Akron's win was the team's first sweep of KSU in program history, tied the school record for most victories and marked the Zips first win in Kent in 25 years.

This, despite the Flashes out-rebounding the Zips 38-29 and having four players finish in double-digit scoring.

Senior guard Tamzin Barroilhet enjoyed her final home game, leading the Flashes with a double-double consisting of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Junior guard Ashley Evans recorded a career-high 19 points, while senior guard Trisha Krewson added 11 points and senior forward Diamon Beckford chipped in 10 points along with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Junior forward Rachel Tecca rebounded from a lackluster three-point first half with 17 second-half points to lead the Zips with 20 points and junior guard/forward Sina King contributed 17 points and nine rebounds in the win.
