Kent State will open the 2011 football season at Alabama, college football's 2009 BCS Champion.

Last week, Akron Beacon Journal writer Stephanie Storm reported Kent State University will pay Purdue University $425,000 to get out of a contract to play next season in order to play Alabama.

Alabama, however, is paying KSU $1.2 million to make the drive down to Tuscaloosa.

With the Browns on a bye and his family able to attend, Josh Cribbs will be the fourth person to have his number retired when Kent State retires his #9 jersey.

Cribbs will hold an autograph signing session before the game.

The Browns Backers are offering a $15 fan experience ticket, which covers a Kent State game ticket, a barbecue lunch from Cajun Dave's at the Water Street Tavern, a limited edition Cribbs/Browns Backers T-shirt and a photo card.

There will also be a Halloween costume contest. Tailgate festivities open up at 12:30 p.m., three hours before kickoff.

Kent State forward Justin Greene has been named to the 2010-11 Eastern Division Preseason All-MAC team, joining Akron's Brett McKnight, Bowling Green's Scott Thomas, Miami's Julian Mavunga and Ohio's D.J. Cooper.

Kent State was selected to finish second in the MAC behind Ohio University by a 24-member MAC News Media Panel.
