Senior QB Keith leads KSU to wild 45-43 victory over visiting Ball State

Quarterback Spencer Keith entered the fourth game of Kent State’s football season Saturday afternoon without a touchdown pass and once again in jeopardy of losing his starting position.

Shaking off a slow start against visiting Ball State, Keith finally showed the kind of veteran response KSU coaches, players and fans have been hoping for all season. Keith threw for 295 yards and a career-high tying three touchdown passes.

KSU DB Darius Polk earns MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors

Stepping in to start in place of injured senior Norman Wolfe, Darius Polk was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week Monday.

Polk, a junior defensive back, recorded two interceptions in Kent State’s 23-7 victory at Buffalo Wednesday night, including a third quarter pick that ended one of the Bulls’ longest drives of the night.

Harrison gives $100,000 to KSU atheltics

Kent State linebacker and current Pittsburgh Steelers’ All-Pro James Harrison gifted $100,000 to his former school Wednesday. 

“This gift is indicative of the legacy James wants to leave at Kent State and of the impact Kent State has had on James and his family,” Matt Geis, Kent State’s Executive Director for Athletic Advancement, said in a press release.
  
A three-time letter-winner for the Golden Flashes from 1999-2001, Harrison was named First Team All-Mid-American Conference as a senior when he record a then-school record 12 sacks and 20 tackles for loss while leading Kent State to a 6-5 record with wins in five of the final six games.

Pennsylvania WR Webb headed to KSU

The PIttsburgh Tribune-Review reported Tuesday that Clairton HIgh senior receiver Terrish Webb has verbally commited to play football at Kent State.

The story said Webb selected the Godlen Flashes over Toledo, Arkansas State and Temple and said he had also redevied interest from nearby Pitt and Connecticut.

Kitchen picked up by Browns

Former Kent State University standout Ishmaa’ily Kitchen was claimed off of waivers by the Cleveland Browns Saturday.

Kitchen, a 6-foot-1, 330-pound defensive lineman, was originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Baltimore Ravens May 10 and played in all four of the Ravens’ preseason games (recording six tackles and a sack).

Archer honored after week 1 performance

Junior kick returner Dri Archer was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of the Week Monday following his three-touchdown performance in the Golden Flashes 41-21 victory over Towson.

Competing in his first game since the 2010 season, Archer was also named National Kickoff Returner of the Week and earned All-Purpose Performer honorable mention by College Football Performance Awards.
