Martin's job is safe, secure

By admin Published: November 7, 2008

In a meeting with the media this morning Kent State Director of Athletics Laing Kennedy had this to say about current football coach Doug Martin's coaching status, according to Steve Hare at the Kent

"I just want to confirm that we will continue to support coach Doug Martin as our football coach at Kent State. Doug is under contract and it's certainly our desire that we're going to fulfill that commitment," said KSU athletics director Laing Kennedy.

Here are some other quick hitter quotes from Steve Hare's story:

"We have a solid group of student-athletes in our program; we have academic excellence. We have the highest graduation rate we've ever had. We're one of the top in the conference in that regard—74-percent—one of the top in the country," Kennedy said. "We have some outstanding commitments for our incoming class, we want to keep that going."

"There's no reason why this program cannot be a preeminent program in the MAC," Kennedy said. "I'm committed to that, coach Martin's committed to that. If we were to do something different, in my opinion, that would be a step back."
