Notes from Tuesday's KSU football practice

By Stephanie Storm Published: November 27, 2012

A special visitor stopped by Kent State’s practice Tuesday late afternoon/early evening in Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald.

“He called me earlier in the day and asked if were OK if he stopped by,” KSU coach Darrell Hazell said. “He said, ‘I’m in the area recruiting’ and I said, ‘I’d love to see you’.

Hazell and Fitzgerald met some two or three years ago when they both attended the Big Ten coaches meetings.

“When I sat in for coach (Jim) Tres(sel) in the meetings one year I got to know (Fitzgerald),” Hazell said. “He’s the one who recommmeded (KSU running backs coach Jafar (Williams) to me as Jafar was on (Northwestern’s) staff.”

 * The Flashes are getting some rare national exposure. Last week, TV cameras followed the team for an all-access, behind-the-scenes look that aired on EPSNU Tuesday evening at 6 and 7 p.m. Wednesday morning, Golden Flashes fans can tune into ESPN again around 10:40 a.m. as Hazell is scheduled to be a call-in guest on SportsCenter.
