Sherman named MAC East Player of the Week

By admin Published: November 16, 2009

Kent State junior guard Rod Sherman was named the MAC East Player of the Week for his performance over the weekend during the Hispanic College Fund Classic.  Sherman was named MVP of the tournament and helped lead the Flashes to a 2-1 record.  He averaged 14.7 points per game, 5.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists while shooting 50 percent from the floor.  That's not a bad return for Sherman, who missed of all last season while recovering from knee surgery, then dislocated his elbow a few weeks ago, and is also trying to get his conditioning and his legs underneath him after sitting out the full season.

Aiken senior forward Kenny Knight (6-7, 225 pounds) has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Kent State.  Aiken is in the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference.  The school planned a signing ceremony this morning.

Redshirt sophomore wrestler Dustin Kilgore has been named the Kent State Athlete of the Week for his performances at the Oklahoma Gold Tournament over the weekend.

Former Kent State quarterback Julian Edelman scored his first career touchdown last night, as his Patriots lost to the Colts, 35-34.  Edelman caught a nine yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady at the 7:19 mark of the second quarter.  It was Edelman's first game back since breaking his arm in a October 18 game against Tennessee.
