KSU basketball to host BracketBusters game, honor 2002 "Elite 8" squad

 The Kent State men's basketball team will host the College of Charleston Feb. 18th as part of the 10th annual BracketBusters event.

 The game time is expected to be announced next week.

Chris Evans is MAC Player of the Week

Kent State junior forward Chris Evans was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week Monday.

Evans, who is shooting a league-high 64 percent in league play, led the Golden Flashes to a pair of victories last week,  averaging 18.5 points per game while shooting 83 percent (15-for-18) from the field.  The 6-foot-7 Evans also chipped in 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 2.5 steals per game, giving KSU a plus-45 advantage in points scored in 53 minutes of action.

Greene claims MAC Player of the Week honors

Kent State's senior forward Justin Greene picked up his 10th career Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week honor Monday after averaging 23 points and helping lead the Golden Flashes to a 2-0 week with a sweep of Miami and Bowling Green.  

A six-time recipient of the award last season, the 6-foot-8 Greene added to his career total with his first such honor of this season.

Reardon reportedly commited to play football at KSU

Poland Seminary senior quarterback Collin Reardon has reportedly made a verbal commitment to play football at Kent State, according to ScoutingOhio.com.

Reardon, who is listed at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, also had offers from Miami University and Youngstown State.

Three KSU football players make Academic All-MAC team

For the second consecutive season, three KSU football players were named to the 2011 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Football Team Friday. 

Senior running back Jacquise Terry earned academic all-conference accolades for the third consecutive year and was joined on the first team by junior quarterback Spencer Keith and senior punter Matt Rinehart.

MAC football realignment moves BGSU to the West, UMass joins KSU in the East

The Mid-American Conference has realigned its football divisions beginning in 2012, with newest member UMass joining the East Division and Bowling Green moving to the West. The seven-team divisions will have a balanced schedule for the first time since 2006.

Each team will play every opponent in its division along with two cross-division games per season.  Thus, Kent State will continue its annual rivalries with Akron, Ohio, Miami and Temple and will also take on Buffalo for the first time since 2009.  The Golden Flashes will also play UMass, owners of three FCS national title game appearances, for the first time in program history.
