Here's Mid-American Conference commissioner Jon Steinbrecher's take on how the league fits into the new BCS playoff format that will take effect in two years and features a four-team, three-game championship.
“We know a few things, but I would suggest to you there’s still an awful lot of work yet to be done,” he said. “We’re not finished with that process…What has not been laid out is the access, how do you put yourself into those access bowls.”
Exactly how that plays out will determine how much the new playoff system will affect a nationally lesser-known conference like the MAC.
“Depending on how the access is worked out, there should as many, if not more, access points into that pool of games that will comprise this (new playoff system),” Steinbrecher said. “The more teams in the system, the better it is for the Mid-American Conference.
“So, four teams is an improvement over two teams, eight teams would be an improvement over four. I don’t know if that will ever occur, but I like where it’s going right now. I like the idea of a playoff.”
