Bobby Deen cut from Ohio State Fair

By Lisa Abraham Published: July 19, 2013

Bobby Deen, son of embattled former Food Network star Paula Deen, has had his appearance at the Ohio State Fair cut.

Deen was supposed to be at the fair on July 27 to host the Greatest Generations of Grilling Cook-Off. The contest is sponsored by Kenmore to celebrate the appliance brand's 100th anniversary.

Heather Ribeiro of SAE Consumer Marketing, which is conducting public relations for Kenmore for the event, said in an email that "Sears Holdings and its Kenmore brand have decided to go in a different direction with our marketing efforts."

Deen has been replaced at the Ohio State Fair by Kent Rigsby of Columbus' Rigsby's Kitchen.

"We are thrilled to work with Kent and he is equally as excited. Having a local chef with such a great reputation in the community makes the connection to the fair and competition very special for Kenmore," Ribeiro said.

Riberio said she could not comment further when asked whether the cancellation was related to Paula Deen's troubles.

Paula Deen was fired by the Food Network and dropped by a host of other companies she did business with after she admitted in a court deposition that she had used racial slurs in the past. Deen has apologized for her past actions.
