This is National Farmers Market Week.
According to new statistics out from the USDA, there are now 8,144 markets operating in the U.S., up from 5,000 in 2008.
What a difference five years can make.
Ohio ranks fifth in the nation this year, with 300 markets. We trail California (759), New York (637), Illinois (336), and Michigan (331). Glad to see Ohio back up to its 5th, the state's ranking from 2011. We dropped to 7th in 2012, but have been in the top 10 for the last five years.
The best way to celebrate this week is to actually get out and go to a farmer's market. We've got plenty in the area.
