Cupboard check. New recall announced.
This comes from Pinnacle Foods, which produces Aunt Jemima frozen breakfast foods:
Out of regard and concern for our consumers, Pinnacle Foods Group LLC is recalling certain Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes. The product may contain soy protein, an undeclared allergen. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy protein may run the risk of an allergic reaction if they consume this product.
The voluntary recall was initiated after the Company discovered there may have been a potential cross-contact with product that contained soy protein being produced on the same equipment. There have been no reports of illness as a result of this incident. The Food and Drug Administration has been made aware of this recall.
This recall applies only to the following products: “AUNT JEMIMA FROZEN PANCAKES” packaged in cardboard cartons with the UPC codes listed below, which were sold and distributed nationally, with a ‘Recommended Use By Date’ between November 1, 2011 up to and including October 16, 2012. This date can be found in the white box on the end of the carton.

Wally Waffle waffles are back
Wally Waffle on Locust Street in Akron is set to reopen Friday morning. The restaurant has been closed for about five weeks after a small kitchen fire.
The owners say everything has been repaired, replaced and cleaned and their waffle irons will be humming again tomorrow.

January is National Gourmet Coffee Month, National Soup Month, National Hot Tea Month, National Slow Cooker Month and National Oatmeal Month, which is not to be confused with National Oatmeal Day, which is in October.
Friday, Jan. 20, is National Cheese Lovers Day and National Buttercrunch Day.

Gingerbread winners... have a look!
Gasser Fine Jewelers has selected the winners in its 6th annual Gingerbread House Competition, which was Nov. 26 to Dec. 23. There were 14 entries in all, made by students from Hoover, Jackson, R.G. Drage, and Canton South high schools.
The first place winner is Taylor May of Jackson High School. Megan Ferguson, also from Jackson High School, placed second. Both girls received a $500 scholarship from Gasser Jewelers.

Orange Juice faces double whammy
News over the past 24 hours doesn't bode well for orange juice and what we will be paying for it at the grocery store in upcoming months.
Yesterday, reports came out that frigid temperatures in Florida, which produces the world's second largest crop of oranges, did more damage that was first expected to orange groves. Orange juice futures had their biggest increase since 2006.

Happy National Spaghetti Day
And you thought the holidays were over. Nope.
Before you stop your celebrations, the National Pasta Association has proclaimed today National Spaghetti Day. It seems in the association's polling, spaghetti beat out bowties and penne as America's favorite pasta, capturing 32 percent of the vote. (Personally, I'm partial to penne or cavatelli, or maybe angel hair, but no one asked me!)
