Michigan company recalls shrimp in Ohio

Lipari Foods of Warren, Mich., is recalling Wholey brand peeled, cooked, tail-on 31/40 count shrimp, because it could be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled shrimp was distributed to manufacturers and retailers in  Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Indiana over the course Thursday and Friday.

Malted Milk Balls recalled

The company that makes Brach's Malted Milk Balls has recalled them because they may contain nuts, which could cause severe allergic reactions in some.

Ferrara Candy Company recalled six-pound packages of bulk Brach’s Malted Milk Balls because they may contain undeclared tree nuts (Brazil nuts) and peanuts.

This chicken has a sell by date of 07/24/2013 and will show UPC numbers 20265000000, 20772500000 or 20682000000. The products were available as 6 oz. consumer-ready packages and at the Heinen’s deli counter.

Bobby Deen cut from Ohio State Fair

Bobby Deen, son of embattled former Food Network star Paula Deen, has had his appearance at the Ohio State Fair cut.

Deen was supposed to be at the fair on July 27 to host the Greatest Generations of Grilling Cook-Off. The contest is sponsored by Kenmore to celebrate the appliance brand's 100th anniversary.

Pistachio recall -- check your cupboards

This from the FDA today:

Western Mixers Produce & Nut Company of Los Angeles, California is recalling ARO and/or Treasured Harvest Pistachios, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
