2012 NFL Draft: Browns select Cincinnati NT John Hughes 87th
University of Cincinnati nose tackle John Hughes was the Browns’ third-round pick Friday night.
Hughes, 6-foot-2 1/2 and 309 pounds, also lettered in basketball and track and field (shot put) in high school at Gahanna Lincoln. For the Bearcats, he didn’t become a starter until 2010.
The Browns picked Hughes after trading down from 67th, acquiring a fourth-rounder (120th overall) from the Denver Broncos to slip 20 spots.
Browns general manager Tom Heckert called Hughes "a big, physical tough guy."
NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock described Hughes “a rotational defensive tackle.”
