Delone Carter napping when Colts called
Sleep had been tough for Syracuse running back Delone Carter the past few nights.
So when the phone call came from the Indianapolis Colts Saturday afternoon, Ohio's 2005 Mr. Football at Copley High School was laying on his bed napping.
"The phone rang and I heard a scream from the other room,'' Carter said by telephone a few minutes later.
The running back was selected by the Colts with the 22nd pick in the fourth round, 119th overall. A group of about 15 people gathered at the home of his mother, April Carter-White, to watch television and wait for the news.
"I had no idea what was in store emotionally and all that. It was definitely something else,'' Carter said.
"It's definitely a relief,'' Carter said. "It was up and down, up and down. Now it's like a weight is lifted off me.''
Carter said he didn't cry, but said he would have confessed if he had.
"I let my family do that for me,'' Carter said.
