Browns season ticket holders received a letter from president Mike Holmgren this week that may be unprecedented for its honesty.
Here's what Holmgren said:
"Now that we're halfway through the season Iwanted to take the time once again to thank you for your support and share with you my thoughts on the season thus far, as well as my optimism for the future.
"Although a few games got away from us, I was happy for the players, coaches and fans in the recent victories over the Saints and Patriots. When convincing people to believe and have faith, wins such as these are of the utmost importance. Internally we are confident in the plan we have implemented and understand that achieving a sustainable level of success requires that we adhere to that process.
"Off the field, we remain committed to making a difference in the community through our outreach efforts. Providing a safe and enjoyable game day experience on Sundays is also a top priority. On the field, our talent level is improved from a year ago, as we've added veteran leadership and experience, and several of our rookies show real promise. I am pleased with everyone's efforts -- they are diligent in their preparation, support each other and work hard.
"Although progress is encouraging and effort admirable, we understand that winning matters. With that in mind, I assure you we will continue to do all we can to improve our performance on and off the field and to deliver on our promise of returning this great franchise to its rightful place among the most successful and respected in the National Football League.
"As always, we appreciate your loyalty.''
