Kitchen ties the score 1-1
Akron freshman midfielder Perry Kitchen's long goal in the 33rd minute tied the game with Michigan 1-1 in Friday's second semifinal of the College Cup.
Kitchen's long ball was at least 30 yards, his shot coming from the 'V' in Louisville painted on the field.
Before Kitchen scored, Michigan appeared to be wearing down from chasing the Zips all over the field. Akron had two good scoring chances before that, with a header by freshman Darren Mattocks off a pass from junior defender Kofi Sarkodie in the 28th minute just missing.
A powerful shot by junior midfield Michael Nanchoff of Walsh Jesuit off a Sarkodie pass was wide right by inches in the 29th minute.
After Kitchen's score, Michigan goalie Chris Blais saved a header by senior midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong off a Nanchoff pass in the 37th minute.
