Buckeyes spring update: Grant on spot at middle linebacker
New Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer is expecting a lot from sophomore Curtis Grant of Richmond (Va.) Hermitage, who was operating as the starting middle linebacker in Wednesday's first practice at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
“He overanalyzed everything a year ago and didn’t play very fast,” Meyer said. “I don’t want to say depressed, but he wasn’t enjoying football. When you’re not very confident, you’re not playing fast, that’s it. He had an excellent off-season. He’s a guy that has to develop. It’s his first day, he did fine. In a week … we have no choice, he has to be a player for us. If he’s not, we’ve got problems.”

More Buckeyes basketball: Matta, Sullinger don't mind being No. 2
Notes from Ohio State's Final Four press conference Tuesday at Value City Arena.
We’re No. 2
Neither Ohio State basketball star Jared Sullinger nor coach Thad Matta seem bothered by the fact that they’re still not as highly regarded by Buckeye fans as the football program.
OSU opens its first spring practice today under new coach Urban Meyer, while the basketball teams leaves for New Orleans and an appearance in the Final Four. Last week, the most-read story on the Columbus Dispatch’s web site was about Meyer buying a home in Muirfield.
“Our Greatest Year” probes Clevelanders’ sports psyche
Northeast Ohio sports fans don’t need an hour on a psychiatrist’s couch when they can see the new play and comic “Our Greatest Year,” concluding a limited engagement at the Dobama Theater in Cleveland Heights tonight and Saturday.
John Carroll University alums Robert Attenweiler (playwright) and Scott Henkle (comic writer/illustrator) use lines and cartoons that will make you laugh and cut to the heart in their story of newlywed New York sportswriter Harvey and his wife Elton who come to Cleveland to care for Harvey’s elderly father.

In light of Elway's coup, does Kosar deserve chance in Browns' front office?
In the past, I've been outspoken in my opinion that former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar didn't deserve a position in the team's personnel department, especially as general manager.
Those strong feelings came mostly from the fact that Kosar distained opportunities to move up the ladder in the NFL in a conventional manner after he retired and from the erratic behavior he displayed, most notably at the funeral of linebacker Eddie Johnson.

Kennedy shines in shuttle, bench press at pro day
NFL draft hopeful Trevor Kennedy of Firestone High School didn’t run the 40-yard dash in the 4.4-second range as he’d hoped, but there were bright spots at his pro day Tuesday at the University of California-Pennsylvania.
The record-setting Mercyhurst University wide receiver was pleased with his 60-yard short shuttle, in which he said he clocked 11 seconds flat.
