Car charger keeps tabs on your phone and other important items

Bringrr locates anything that one of its tags is attached to -- even a pet.

I never thought I was addicted to my smart phone until I left it at work this past weekend.

No text messaging. No Internet at my fingertips. No easy access to Words With Friends.

If only I’d had Bringrr.

Bringrr is a product that a couple of engineering students at the University of Massachusetts developed and are trying to bring to the market. It’s a car charger that keeps tabs on your phone and other important items and alerts you if you get into your car without them, so you won’t leave them behind.

Bringrr plugs into your car’s cigarette lighter and communicates with your phone via Bluetooth. You can also buy tags to attach to other items you don’t want to forget or lose, such as your handbag, your laptop or even your pet.

There’s also a phone app that lets you manage your tagged items. You can use it to track down a missing item when you're not in your car and even harness the networks of other Bringrr users. If one of them drives within range of what you’ve lost, you’ll be notified of its location.

Bringrr’s creators have launched a Kickstarter campaign to get their startup funded. They need to raise $75,000 in pledges by Feb. 3 and so far have commitments for $36,308.

They're offering products as incentives to people who pledge at various levels, but you can pledge as little as $1.

If you can find your credit card, that is.
