Clutter cure, bit by bit

Every new year, lots of people resolve to declutter. But few are still at it by the time the calendar page turns to February.
The problem for many is the sheer size of the task. Paring possessions can seem so daunting that it's paralyzing.
That's why I like the idea I got from my friend Michele Anthol. She resolved one year to throw away, give away or donate one item a day. Just one.
It's a small goal, but that's the beauty of it. Getting rid of just one thing isn't overwhelming, and those small steps add up.
Michele is still at it. Sure, she misses a day or a few days now and then, but she just makes up for it later.
And I'll bet she thinks twice before bringing anything new into her home.
