By Mary Beth Breckenridge Published: April 2, 2014

Consumer Reports’ latest lawn mower ratings are out.

Honda and Toro mowers earned the highest scores among self-propelled, gas-powered mowers, the most popular type. The Honda HRR2169VKA, which sells for about $400, and the Toro 20381, priced around $520, were both named Best Buys.

The Cub Cadet SC100 11A-A92J was rated at the top of the gas push mower category and was also named a Best Buy. The mower sells for about $250.

At the top of the electric battery mowers category was the EGO LM2000, priced around $500

Scoring at the bottom of the testing were two Earthwise mowers, a plug-in mower and a self-propelled cordless model, and a gas-powerd push mower from Murray.

Consumer Reports tested nearly 40 mowers in this go-round. The full report, along with ratings on tractors, riding mowers, string trimmers and leaf blowers, will be in the magazine’s May issue and on its website.
