The fiscal cliff compromise brought good news for consumers: Congress reinstated tax credits for energy-efficient home improvements.
The American Taxpayer Relief Act makes the credits retroactive to 2012 and extends them to the end of 2013, the Alliance to Save Energy reports.
The legislation allows homeowners to claim credits of varying amounts on the cost of upgrades such as insulation, energy-saving windows and highly efficient furnaces. You can claim up to $500 in credits.
