Farm grows veggies 12 stories below London

By Mary Beth Breckenridge Published: January 31, 2014

Growing microgreens and miniature vegetables in an environmentally sustainable way isn’t a new concept.

Growing them 12 stories beneath London is.

A couple of entrepreneurs are creating a farm deep below the surface of the bustling city, in a tunnel network beneath one of London’s subway lines.

That far below the earth’s surface, the temperature stays steady at around 61 degrees Fahrenheit year round, so energy needed for heating will be minimal. The farm will use LED lighting and hydroponics to make the system carbon-neutral.

The two have started a crowd-sourcing campaign to fund the venture. Check out this video to learn more.
