Study associates tree loss with ill health

An intriguing new study makes an association between the loss of trees and impaired health.

The study, by researchers with the U.S. Forest Service, found an increase in deaths from cardiovascular disease and lower respiratory disease in areas of the United States where the emerald ash borer has devastated ash tree populations.

Energy efficiency tax credits reinstated

The fiscal cliff compromise brought good news for consumers: Congress reinstated tax credits for energy-efficient home improvements.

The American Taxpayer Relief Act makes the credits retroactive to 2012 and extends them to the end of 2013, the Alliance to Save Energy reports.
