Here's a clever tip from Fine Homebuilding for making sure a power tool doesn't come loose from an extension cord. It's particularly useful when you're in a place or situation such as on a roof, where you absolutely don't want to have to stop work to plug the tool back in.

Today's the last day to vote for Cleveland artisan in Martha Stewart competition

A Northeast Ohio artisan is in the running for $10,000 in Martha Stewart’s Second Annual “American Made” Program, which recognizes excellence and ingenuity among American small-business owners who produce homemade goods.

Clevelander Brian Andrew Jasinski, who created the Grey Cardigan line of prints and stationery, is one of six finalists in the competition. He advanced to the finals by receiving the most votes in the design category.

Consumer Reports is out with its new ratings on dishwasher detergents. The winner: Cascade Complete ActionPacs.

I doubt many of us paid much heed to the quality of our dishwasher detergent until three years ago, when phosphates were banned from the products. Suddenly we started discovering food particles still stuck to our supposedly clean dishes, milky film on our glasses and sometimes tarnish on our silverware.
