'Homegirl' in grant competition

By Mary Beth Breckenridge Published: June 21, 2012

Hudson "Homegirl" Gina Bishop is competing for a $250,000 small-business grant in Chase and Living Social's Mission Small Business contest.

The program will award up to 12 grants to help owners of small enterprises move their businesses forward.

Bishop holds periodic Homegirl sales in her barn to sell furniture, home accessories and artwork, much of it created from repurposed items. She recently made a series of decorating how-to videos that are to appear on

You can support her effort to win the grant by visiting the contest website. Log in using your Facebook account, and then search for "Homegirl." There are two contestants by that name, so look for the one from Ohio. Click the "vote" button to show your support.

Applicants need to receive at least 250 votes to have their applications evaluated.

Check out Bishop's Homegirl website to learn more about her and her business.
