Count me among the consumers who are not big fans of stainless steel kitchen appliances. So I welcomed the news this week that GE is expanding its line of appliances with its warm gray Slate finish.
In September, the company will double the number of appliance models offered in Slate, it said in a news release.
The low-gloss finish was introduced a year ago as an alternative to stainless steel. Sales have been double original estimates, GE said.
Slate also resists fingerprints, a complaint I and many others have about stainless.
Stainless remains popular, but there's evidence that at least some consumers and designers are itching for something new.
Are you listening, appliance manufacturers?
