It's tulip time

By Mary Beth Breckenridge Published: May 1, 2013

If you want to see tulips at their best, now's the time.

Cleveland Botanical Garden sent word this morning that today is expected to be the peak day for its spring blooms. The garden in Cleveland's University Circle has more than 10,000 tulips in riotous colors.

Another beauty spot worth checking out is Fellows Riverside Gardens in Youngstown's Mill Creek Park. Its seasonal beds teem with tulips this time of year.

If you plan a trip to Fellows Gardens, be sure to build in plenty of time to see the rest of Mill Creek Park. Highlights include Lanterman's Mill and Falls, the Davis Visitors Center and the picturesque Suspension Bridge. I grew up across the street from the park and admit to being biased, but visitors to Youngstown are regularly surprised at the beauty of this metropolitan park.
