Toro is making an unusual offer this fall: If you buy one of its snowblowers and it doesn't snow, you get your money back.
The S'No Risk Guarantee stipulates that if the annual snowfall this winter is less than 10 percent of the average for your area, Toro will refund 100 percent of your purchase price. If snowfall is less than 50 percent, you get 10 percent back.
Don't hold your breath waiting for a windfall, though. According to an analysis by the Plain Dealer of snowfall records since 1950-51, the smallest amount of snow to fall on Cleveland in a season was 31.1 inches in 1957-58. That's nearly half the seasonal average of 62.5 inches.
I couldn't find similar records for Akron, but the figures are undoubtedly similar.
The offer is good till Nov. 15. Details are on Toro's S'No Risk Guarantee Web page.
