When you buy from Ikea, you could be buying Ohio.
The Swedish retailer announced today that it has awarded Ohio’s Sauder Woodworking Co. a five-year contract. As a result, the Archbold company will make more products for Ikea’s U.S. stores.
Sauder, which specializes in ready-to-assemble furniture, already supplies Akurum kitchen cabinets to Ikea. Under the new contract, it will also produce bedroom, office, entertainment and children’s storage furniture.
The partnership will create at least 150 jobs, Ikea and Sauder said.
Sauder is one of 25 companies in the U.S. that supply Ikea. The retailer said using American suppliers reduces the distance products need to be shipped and cuts down on carbon emissions.
