If you think Ron Trzcinski's mattress ads about honesty and courtesy are just another cheesy come-on, think again.
Trzcinski's Original Mattress Factory ranked first among mattress stores in Consumer Reports' latest consumer survey.
The Cleveland-based company was compared to 14 other mattress retailers in the survey of more than 1 million consumers. The stores were rated on quality, service, price satisfaction, delivery and selection.
Original Mattress Factory scored 89 on a scale of 1 to 100. Close behind was Costco, with a score of 87.
Consumers also ranked Original Mattress Factory second among mattress brands, behind Tempur-Pedic, a line of memory-foam mattresses. The survey participants were asked whether they would buy the mattress brand again, whether their mattress improved their sleep and how satisfied they were with the price.
Tempur-Pedic scored 84; Original Mattress Factory, 83.
Trzcinski, a former executive with the company that became Sealy Corp. started Original Mattress Factory with the intention of demystifying the process of buying a bed. His knowledge of the business and his company's emphasis on transparency and values have earned him widespread respect in the bedding industry.
