Fertilizing your lawn this weekend? Check out these tips from The Family Handyman:
-- Fill the spreader in the driveway, not on the lawn. Spilled fertilzer can kill grass.
-- Follow the coverage guidance on the bag.
-- Rinse the spreader after use with a garden hose. Otherwise the metal parts can rust and freeze up.
-- Seal partial bags of fertilizer with duct tape, and store in a dry place. It will keep the fertilizer from lumping together.
-- If you’ve reseeded some areas, cover them with plastic before fertilizing the rest of the lawn so you won’t burn the new seedlings.
