Unconventional cleaning ideas

By Mary Beth Breckenridge Published: August 18, 2014

No cleaning supplies?

No worries.

The Family Handyman offers these unconventional cleaning ideas:

-- Slip a piece of foam pipe insulation over the tines of a garden rake to create a squeegee for floor cleaning.

-- Remove scuff marks from vinyl floors by rubbing them lightly with a tennis ball.

-- Freshen a smelly garbage disposal by grinding lemon or orange peels in it. The citric acid softens crusty gunk and kills bacteria.

-- Use vegetable oil to clean stray marks made by washable markers.

-- Keep baby wipes in the wood shop to clean up excess wood glue.
