83 To 15

By The Reverend Published: December 14, 2010

It isn't often that obstructionistic Republican Senators act all bipartisan.

This is what they normally do...

In the 110th Congress of 2007-2008, with Republicans in the minority, there were a record 112 cloture votes.

That was a doubling of the previous record.

As of August, 2010....Republican Senators had rung up 53 filibusters in the current Congress as they continued their campaign to stop all Democratic legislative efforts.

But no filibuster yesterday by the obstructionists. Obama and the Democrats paid the GOP hostage takers the ransom they demanded, so when it came time for the reprehensible, anti-American, obstructionists to vote for cloture on detailed ransom filibuster, no need.

The cloture vote was 83-15. 45 Democrats and 37 Republicans voted to move ahead for debate and a final vote on the terms of the Republican ransom correspondence written on behalf of a few thousand very wealthy Americans.

So, let me see if I have all this stuff straight. Republicans have been refusing debate and a vote on every-freaking-thing since Democrats recaptured Congress in 2006......and then out of nowhere comes a moment of bipartisan bliss where Republican economic hostage taking terrorists hold razor blades to the necks of all non-filthy rich working Americans.....and voila!, cross party brotherhood flows like a river.

The very fact that the vote for cloture was 83-15 should be enough to inform anyone interested that something is sadly wrong in this legislation.

Consider two previous heavily bipartisan votes in the Senate. The first is the Authorization Bill to illegally attack Iraq. After the Bushies had sufficiently hoodwinked the American people with their endless stream of lies and propaganda, the Senate voted for cloture on the bill to grant Commander Guy authority to attack the non-threatening sovereign nation of Iraq. The cloture vote was 75-25. The authorization to attack a non-threatening, sovereign country....America's first such international crime.....passed in the Senate with a final vote of 77-23.

Bipartisanship at it's finest, the David Broders and the assh*le Evan Byah's of this world would tell you. Instead, the legislation was a horrendously big f*cking mistake. Nothing good has come out of the Iraq attack. Nothing. 4500 dead Americans, a trillion dollars burnt up in the sand, 100,000 plus dead Iraqis....and more hatred of America from middle easterners.

But, by god, that Senate vote was bipartisan.

Another overwhelmingly bipartisan vote in the Senate was the vote to defund ACORN. The defund-ACORN Senate action came in the form of an amendment to another larger funding bill. The amendment to defund ACORN passed the Senate by an 83-7 vote count. Bipartisan, sure.......even though kind of out of the ordinary seeing that it was done in the midst of a record setting blitzkreig of Republican Senator-led filibusters.

However, just as with the Iraq vote.....the defund-ACORN vote was a crime and a total embarassment for the American people. ACORN had never been convicted of anything. ACORN had spent it's entire existence helping and assisting low income urban-living Americans. After being defunded, ACORN was cleared in two separate investigations of any wrongdoing.

Yet a hugely bipartisan vote in the Senate, as now with the tax cuts bill, hurriedly passed,.....forced ACORN a short time later to bankrupt it's organization.

In the last 16 years, the Republican Party has morphed into an anti-American, criminal organization which will do ANYTHING to get what their handful of powerful and rich constituents want. This band of criminals has been obstructing and roadblocking all Democratic legislative efforts for the past 4 years, setting outrageous new filibuster records in the process.

So when you see a big bipartisan tax cut bill emerging, don't be so quick to jump on the Kumbaya bandwagon. When bipartisan Senate our current environment....reach should be automatically skeptical, despite the Village orgasm over bipartisanship......that what's really happening is Americans are getting screwed.
