Who Are The Libyan Rebels?

By The Reverend Published: March 31, 2011

What's in a name, right?

Terrorists, insurgents, rabble-rousers, freedom about let's call them...rebels. Yeah, that's it. And so it was in the Village.

Taking Off The Masks

By The Reverend Published: March 30, 2011

We see it in Wisconsin where a neo-confederate Tea Party Republican Governor, beholden to billionaires and drunk on radical supply side ideology, has brazenly attacked the right of people who work for a living from collectively bargaining.

"Interests and Values"

By The Reverend Published: March 29, 2011

When Barack Obama negotiated his Grand Compromise with

Two months after a midterm election construed to be all about the oh-so-terrible federal deficits and debt....Obama and his new Bipartisan Buddies added another trillion to the red ink mess, while congratulating each other on how well they worked together to get something accomplished for the American people. The word, nauseating, doesn't quite capture the essence of the moment.

Stifled By High Corporate Tax Rates?

By The Reverend Published: March 26, 2011

My libertarian and conservative friends like to remind me that America's corporate tax rates are oh-so-high. As they tell it, America's 35% tax rate on corporations stifles growth and innovation. They even suggest that our current high unemployment is being affected negatively by these burdensome corporate taxes.

The Reverend likes to deal in the actual here is a chart comparing corporate as well as personal income tax rates of the industrialized countries of the world....

Leasing Ohio's Liquor Sales

By The Reverend Published: March 23, 2011

Ohio Republican Governor LittleJohn Kasich's first order of business upon taking office was to replace the Ohio Department of Development with a brand new privatizing tool called JobsOhio.

The reason given for this changeover was that the old Department of Development, according to Kasich, was not moving at the "speed of business"....whatever that's supposed to mean.

Microscopically Smaller Government

By The Reverend Published: March 19, 2011

One of the often heard slogans of libertarians and Tea Partiers is "smaller government." All problems that exist, according to libertarian types, exist because government is too intrusive and too big.

This smaller-government religion is epitomized in the words of one Grover Norquist, former College Republican dirty trickster. The Grover is famous for saying that the goal of conservatives should be to shrink the size of government down so it could be drowned in a bathtub. That Grover, he's so clever.

Another War Not About Oil

By The Reverend Published: March 18, 2011

Remember how invading the sovereign nation of Iraq in 2003 had nothing to do with Iraq's huge oil reserves? Nothing whatsoever.

Once the WMD-in-Iraq bullsh*t meter pegged out....the reason for attacking a nation which posed no threat to the United States became clearer. You see, what Iraq was always about was the Iraqi people. Freeing those poor Iraqi people for...well...freedom.

More Than A Dime's Worth

By The Reverend Published: March 17, 2011

George Wallace, Ross Perot and Ralph Nader all famously said that there wasn't a dime's worth of difference between the two political parties. There's quite a bit of truth in that statement.

Taking Hostages 2, "Ultimate Leverage"

By The Reverend Published: March 15, 2011

In Taking Hostages, Part One, which aired on most teevee news programs last December to rave reviews by Village Elders, Republicans put the gun of tax increases to the foreheads of 95% of American families and threatened to pull the trigger if the top 5% had to pay one more penny than they have been used to paying.

As the cheesy mocu-drama unfolded, The Political Party of the Rich waxed all cocky, confident that their ransom note would eventually be honored by Barack of the Bipartisans, the alleged representative in hostage negotiations for the 95%. And so it came to pass after several scenes of the most pretentious acting and preening in front of the cameras in recent memory that Barack of the Bipartisans not only agreed to the ransom demands of the Political Party of the Rich.....but went even further in his eagerness to to be loved....bipartisanly.

Truth Is "Controversial Comment"

By The Reverend Published: March 14, 2011

In December of last year I wrote about the torturing of U.S. Army private Bradley Manning. Held at that point for 7 months without a trial for allegedly stealing and leaking classified information, Manning had fallen victim to the "everything has changed since 9-11" American paradigm.

Today, Manning is still being tortured just as he has been for almost one full year......yet still no trial, no due process.

The Radicalization Of The Kings

By The Reverend Published: March 12, 2011

On January 20, 2011, I blogged about a domestic terrorism attempt on MLK Day in Spokane, Washington. Embarassingly, I stated in that blog that the attempted bombing happened in Seattle.

The domestic terrorist who authorities say planted a "weapon of mass destruction" backpack bomb along the MLK Day parade route in Spokane has now been arrested.

A Declaration Of War

By The Reverend Published: March 10, 2011

Wisconsin state legislators ended their three weeks of playacting last night by simply telling unionized workers in their state and union workers and supporters nationwide to go f*ck themselves....and have a nice day.

From the beginning of the dispute in Wisconsin over Governor Scott Walker's attempt to end collective bargaining rights for state workers, the governor has sworn that ending union workers' rights to bargain was all about balancing budgets and fixing deficits in his "we're broke" state. All along, the Tea Party darling governor has claimed that taking away janitors, teachers, road maintenance workers, nursing home employees, and teachers' rights to negotiate for wages and benefits was to bring the state budget in balance.

T-Paw, Newton & God

By The Reverend Published: March 9, 2011

Monday brought us the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition (IFFC)
gathering. An opportunity for brand name conservative opportunists to pledge their allegiance to god.....and America, god's country.....before they decide to jump into the Republican presidential primary battles.

Noticeably absent from the Iowa event was the man who will be the Republican presidential candidate next year, Willard Mitt Romney. Mr. Romney is a Mormon....a member of the Latter Day Saints....but the LDS church is not held in high esteem by traditional conservative evangelical Christians.

Losing The Future

By The Reverend Published: March 8, 2011

Imagine every K-12 school throughout America as a Wal-Mart School. Privatized, for profit education for all of America's children. Big box store education. With profits as the core reason for long would it be before parents were taking out state and federal loans, from for-profit banks naturally, to finance their child's high school education? Why limit debt enslavement to college graduates?

How about interstate highways? Imagine paying a toll every time you jumped on Interstate 77. Every time. Privatized, for profit, interstate highway systems where tolls had to be raised constantly to guarantee ongoing profits for highway owners and their investors. Imagine the quality we would all enjoy if interstate highways were all privatized.

What Americans Want

By The Reverend Published: March 4, 2011

I heard conservative hack Susan Molinari the other day claiming that the voters spoke last November.....and what those voters said was that big government and big deficits simply had to be stopped.

Republican hacks lie.....and so it comes as no surprise that exit polling from the a wide margin....demonstrated that what voters were primarily concerned about was our horrendous jobs situation and the sluggish economy that high unemployment has created.

Alito: The 1 in 8-1

By The Reverend Published: March 3, 2011

In the controversial Citizens United Supreme Court case, Justice Samuel Alito voted with the 5-4 majority ruling which severely rolled back the tepid campaign finance reform attempted in the McCain/Feingold legislation.

As I searched, and searched, this past Saturday for teevee coverage of the multi-state, MoveOn organized, protests over Tea Party governors scrapping collective bargaining rights....I caught a portion of CNN's late afternoon programming. CNN devoted approximately 60 seconds to coverage at all of any other state protests (New York had 10,000 protesting)....and then immediately moved on to devote several minutes to the Tea Party's second anniversary.

Yeah, they did.
