We Just Can't Tell You How Offended We Are

By The Reverend Published: February 27, 2008

You know how the mainstream teevee media, on a daily basis, brazenly uses pictures and mindless, insignificant stories about Paris, Lindsey, Brittney and the like? The very serious, moral values loving, teevee media members remind Americans nightly about how bad-and-immoral-and-loose-and-irresponsible these young and attractive women are.

All of those media folks who bleat out the daily slut stories on a 24/7 loop are oh-so-offended by the antics of these hell-bound ladies. The media members disapproving smirks and so-serious, head wagging communicates to viewers how much today's tart -of-the-day story upsets them. These righteous and good reporters are simply shocked, every day and night. And so every day and every night these same offended and righteous reporters must show Americans even more sexy, alluring pictures of those who are so immoral and irresponsible.

Lies That Can't Take Truth For An Answer

By The Reverend Published: February 25, 2008

UPDATED BELOW

It's to be expected. It would be a shock if it didn't happen. A wildly popular upstart with an odd name drawing huge crowds and winning primaries by the handfuls over a brand name opponent, necessitates it. An inspirational speaker the likes of whom we haven't seen in America for a generation, demands it. The shattered "permanent majority" ambitions of a corrupt and lawless opposition party made up of far right extremists, seeks vengeance in it.

AB Journal: "No We Can't"

By The Reverend Published: February 24, 2008

Predictably, the Akron Beacon Journal endorsed Hillary Clinton this morning for the Democratic presidential candidacy. Something that was fully expected by this blogger. The editorialists that opine in the Beacon are basically status quo establishment thinkers, so endorsing Clinton over Obama is no surprise.

This is the same editorial board, don't forget, who endorsed Mike DeWine, another establishment person, over Sherrod Brown. So the Beacon has a track record of Dean Broder-like thinking. Constantly speaking to themselves about the existence of some invisible center in modern politics.

Obama Speaks Clearly About Surge

Immediately following up on John King's "isn't the surge in Iraq working and weren't you wrong", question to Hillary Clinton last night in the CNN debate, Campbell Brown posed the same question to Barack Obama.

Sanctimonious John McCain

By The Reverend Published: February 21, 2008

If you haven't read the New York Times piece about John McCain's dealings with Vicki Iseman, 40 year old lobbyist, go here. Link

Apparently in 1999-2000, Ms. Iseman, working as a lobbyist, was often seen hanging around McCain. They traveled together on corporate jets. She attended McCain fundraisers. Now ex-McCain campaign 2000 aides say they warned McCain that this might appear unethical to some and indiscriminate to others. Potentially endangering McCain's presidential aspirations.

Obama Already Running Foreign Policy

By The Reverend Published: February 20, 2008

Much was made of Barack Obama's earlier comments about what he would do if he had actionable intelligence pinpointing where Bin Laden was to be found in the northwest frontier of Pakistan. Obama's clear, concise, and reasoned answer drew much hand wringing and head wagging from conservatives and neo-conservatives.

Michael Douglas: Defending The Indefensible

By The Reverend Published: February 17, 2008

In this morning's Beacon Journal, Michael Douglas editorializes that Hillary Clinton's vote in 2002 to authorize George W. Bush to use U.S. military force in Iraq, was, somehow, understandable because it was consistent with other "coercive diplomacy" actions in the past carried out under Bill Clinton.

Douglas references Michael Crowley's year old New Republic piece where Crowley explains Hillary's vote in the wider context of what she supposedly learned during her husband's presidency. This, allegedly, led her to, "the evolving awareness of the role that military force can play in advancing diplomatic goals."

Son Of Surge

By The Reverend Published: February 12, 2008

John McCain has been making quite a deal about his support, before anyone else mind you, of what's commonly referred to as the "surge". In the Vietnam days the word was "escalation", as in, 'the president is escalating the war effort'. But today, our leaders are so much smarter and wiser. And our journalists.....well....they're just so much better at polishing a bullsh*t phrase then back in those days. Why call something what it is when you can create a brand new.....well.....brand?

Not torture, but instead, enhanced interrogation. Not spying on Americans, but instead, the Terrorist Surveillance Program. Not poisoning the atmosphere, but instead, the Clear Skies Act. Not taking away your Constitutional rights, but instead, The Patriot Act. Not a naked act of military aggression, but instead, Operation Iraqi Freedom. Not the escalation of an already failed act of aggression in Iraq, but instead, THE SURGE.

Knee Padder Darling

By The Reverend Published: February 4, 2008

I hope Nancy Benac of the AP didn't get any on her in her gushing column over John McCain, a column, sadly, handpicked and reprinted on the front page in today's Akron Beacon Journal.

I realize that the moderate-to-right Beacon will print favorable articles and columns about any GOP candidate....it's what they do. It won't be pretty witnessing all the Knee Padding, just around the corner, (and in the alley) for the man who wants to keep American soldiers in Iraq for 50, maybe 100 years.
