MSNBC's Joe Scarborough talks.....a lot. But the one thing he has never talked about is what happened in 2001 while he was a GOP congressman....
"FORT WALTON BEACH, FL. - Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old office worker for Rep. Joe Scarborough (R-Fl), was found dead in the congressman's district office. Police said preliminary findings from the medical examiner's office showed no foul play or any outward indication of suicide."
Seems, you know, like kind of a big deal. Far as I can tell though, Big Media barely covered what seems to have been an important story at the time. Not saying Scarborough had anything to do with the death of one of his young secretaries in 2001....not saying Scarborough was involved romantically with one of his secretaries....not saying that Scarborough bears any responsibility at all for the death, in his office, of one of his young female employees.
"If Hillary Clinton attacks the Republican Party's handling of women, and treatment of women and disrespect for women, and suggests they’re misogynists et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, it does seem to be a fair question to ask right now, a few years out, does the media have a responsibility to say, ‘Well, let’s see what happened when you were in the White House, and how women were treated when you were in the governor’s mansion and the White House?’ Is that fair?" the 'Morning Joe' host asked Monday morning, as quoted by Mediaite.
Just for clarification.....Republicans are accused of warring against women BECAUSE state and federal Republicans have passed an enormous number of laws in recent years restricting a woman's legal right to choose. Republicans haven't been able to overthrow Roe through the normal process, so they have chosen to pass laws that harass, harangue and humiliate women who choose to exercise their legal rights.
Additionally....and this should not be a surprise to folks like Scarborough....the U.S. Tea House and various red-state legislatures have gone out of their way to defund Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood has been a godsend to millions upon millions of women in America concerned about their reproductive health and choices.
So, it's not as if people like me have been making stuff up when we accuse the GOP of waging a war on women. It's a real war.....against women.
Now to Scarborough's threat to Hillary Clinton. Scarborough said that if during Hillary's run to the White House she brings up the GOP's numerous anti-abortion harassment-laws and their defunding of Planned Parenthood, then media (that means Scarborough)...."have a responsibility to say, ‘Well, let’s see what happened when you were in the White House, and how women were treated when you were in the governor’s mansion and the White House?’"
Scarborough knows what he suggested was comparing apples to....rutabagas...but he doesn't care about that. The concerted legislative actions of an entire political party to impede, restrict and eliminate health services to women.....has no equivalency, whatsoever, with one president's personal dealings with women who were not his wife. One is driven by an up-to-now unobtainable, ideological and policy preference, one is not.
But Scarborough talks for three hours every weekday morning on the oh-so-liberal MSNBC to help frame the narrative in favor of his beloved, but struggling, GOP. What Big Talker Joe was doing yesterday with his pre-emptive threat to Hillary was setting the benchmark for likeminded media members who relish hating on the Clintons.
What all this means is that everything old will soon be new again....or at least a rerun. The GOP has been hoping, against evidence, that Benghazi would damage Hillary's presidential aspirations. That's what the faux scandal has really been all about. But Scarborough must not be convinced that Hillary will be sufficiently dinged by the non-scandal.
Yesterday's threat to Hillary over the GOP's war on women was like a referee's whistle to start a game. Game on. Rand Paul threw down on Hillary over the weekend in an attempt to make Bill's carnal transgressions Hillary's, I guess, through osmosis. Now, Scarborough, and dozens of other Clinton-obsessed pro-conservative/corporate media stenographers who will soon follow his lead, are rarin' and preparin' to rerun the 90's. See what we all have to look forward to?
I think most folks thought that conservative and Village propagandists would go there.....eventually. Our modern national political discourse has devolved into something comparable to teenagers gossiping about other teenagers....but can you imagine 2 1/2 straight years of totally empty and childish Hillary and Bill gossip?
Prepare yourself now.....because that's precisely what lies ahead.
