Here's a brief expansion on a tiny blurb of a story found in the Beacon yesterday.....
Nobel laureate Doris Lessing said the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States were "not that terrible" when compared to attacks by the IRA in Britain.
"September 11 was terrible, but if one goes back over the history of the IRA, what happened to the Americans wasn't that terrible," the Nobel Literature Prize winner told the leading Spanish daily El Pais.
"Some Americans will think I'm crazy. Many people died, two prominent buildings fell, but it was neither as terrible nor as extraordinary as they think. They're a very naive people, or they pretend to be," she said in an interview published Sunday.
"Do you know what people forget? That the IRA attacked with bombs against our government; it killed several people while a Conservative congress was being held and in which the prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, was (attending). People forget," she said.
"As for Bush, he's a world calamity," added Lessing. "Everyone is tired of this man. Either he is stupid or he is very clever, although you have to remember he is a member of a social class which has profited from wars." Link
"...stupid or...very clever..."
There it is. The critic jury is still out on George W. Bush.....is he just stupid?....or is he very clever in his madness?
Junior is NOT stupid. People often confuse laziness with stupidity. Lazy Junior is. Stupid, not so much. Incurious? Maybe. Stupid? Not on your life, and I mean that literally....with George the fact that he is NOT stupid could mean your life or the life of someone you care about.
The neo-con American traitors who selected Junior for the GOP candidacy in 2000 knew George wasn't stupid. They knew he was clever enough and craven enough to ramrod their anti-American agenda down our throats if he could just get the chance....the Supreme Court took it from there.
Many books will be written, some have been already, setting forth pro and con positions on whether Bush Junior was simply an incompetent bumbler or a conniving and clever traitor of our nation.
Was Bush incompetent when he neglected Katrina victims and still today continues to do so? Or did he do it purposely and cleverly to help his hopelessly corrupt political party? Did Junior just stumble incompetently into the Iraq quagmire after the surprise of 9-11, or did he have it planned before he took office?
I know the answer. Doris Lessing probably does too. After all, as she said, "..he is a member of a social class which has profited from wars."
