George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Condi Rice couldn't have said it any better than John Kerry did yesterday.....
"The use of chemical weapons in Syria is not only an assault on humanity – it is a serious threat to America’s national security interests and those of our closest allies," he said.
You see, the big lie leading up to attacking Iraq in 2003 was that Saddam was " a serious threat to America's national security." That was the lie. The fraud. Here's Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel from yesterday's hearings....
"What message do we send the world when such a crime goes unpunished? Will those who have these weapons use them again? Will they use them more widely and kill more children? Will they use them against our allies, against our troops or embassies? Or will they give them or sell them to terrorists who would use them against us here at home?"
Hagel's words are evidence that Dick Cheney's 1% Doctrine is still the accepted "new normal." Hagel's message is the Bushian message, 'the only thing we have to fear post 9-11 is not being sufficiently afraid.'
Senator Robert Menendez, a Democrat of New Jersey and the committee chairman, said Congress was charged with deciding whether the US would “stand silent in the face of human suffering”.
Mr Menendez warned inaction would embolden Iran, North Korea, Hizbollah and Hamas, while “Israel will think we don’t have their back”.
So much to be fearful about. What will Israel think if U.S. missiles are not sent into Syria? Will Israeli leaders feel all alone and betrayed? Too scary to even imagine. And to all the 'humanitarian interventionists' on the left, Menendez poured on the guilt-fear of "staying silent in the face of human suffering."
Mr Obama also stressed failing to punish Syria would embolden Iran and endanger Israel, warning chemical weapons could fall into terrorists’ hands and “pose a risk to allies and friends of ours, like Israel, like Jordan, like Turkey”.
Lots of stuff "could" happen. It used to be the Bushies whose job it was to list all the scary, scary stuff that "could" happen.....in order to properly scare officials and citizens into passive acceptance of attacking a non-threatening nation. Now it's the Obama-ites.
No matter the outcome in Syria......this marks the lowest point of the Obama administration. Barack Obama rightly criticized the Bush lawlessness and fearmongering before becoming president. Now, Obama has come full circle. He is the one now attempting to scare Americans into accepting an attack on another middle eastern country posing no threat to the U.S. Obama's lieutenants are now the ones posing all the "but what if this happens" scare tactics.
All that seems left to do is for the bipartisan leaders of our new single political warring party....Grampy McCain and President Obama....to stand side by side before microphones, declaring in harmony, as the missiles fly (hallelujah), that....
"I think it's safe to say, we are all neo-cons today."
