Chuck Todd is NBC's political news director. Chuck Todd was on Hardball with Chris Matthews, Friday 12-28, handicapping the upcoming primaries. As Matthews asks about Mike Huckabee's 8% lead in Iowa over Romney......listen carefully for the two anecdotes Todd relates in his attempt to make a case that Huckabee won't win Iowa despite the polling. The anecdote that is important here is the second one about an Iowa farmer....
Giggling and chuckling about an Iowa farmer who supports Huckabee, but had some work to do on his farm the night of the caucuses is first.....supposed to make Chuck Todd's case that, despite the polling, Huckabee just won't win the Iowa caucuses, because Preacher Mike's supporters, like the farmer Todd chuckles about, are unreliable and unserious.....and second....those who have work to do on their farms the night of the Iowa caucuses are, somehow, silly working class folks deserving to be giggled at by serious and wise political news directors. Shoot....you aren't supposed to take these hicks seriously. That's who supports Governor Huckabee. Silly Iowa hick farmers, who, you know, work and stuff.
If the Iowa farmer, whom Todd gets a laugh over, watched Chuckie making funnies at his expense, do you think the farmer would, you know, giggle along......or.......would the Iowa farmer want to rearrange Chuckie's facial bones so that when he chuckled and giggled the next time about silly Iowa farmers, it would be a reminder to ol' Chuck-boy of how smart,....and funny.... he is as NBC's political news director?
Chuck Todd confesses he is "addicted to anecdotes" during elections. Must be why he is so smart. The scientific poll that was taken across a broad swath of, like, Iowa voters......came up with an 8% lead for Huckabee....but Todd rebuts that finding out of hand with his 2 anecdotes. Man, I can see now why NBC made him their political news director.
The reason I bring this up is not for the sake of nitpicking....it is rather to demonstrate the total lack of objectivity in mainstream "news" during this presidential election season, (really, during any season).....and the contempt that "news" people have for the majority of Americans.
Here's a bit of interesting Democratic information going into today's caucuses in Iowa....
Critically, Edwards was the second choice of 62% of those who supported other candidates that did not receive the required 15% of the vote. Clinton was the second choice of 21% and Obama of 17%.
Using the reallocation methodology InsiderAdvantage used in 2004 – which correctly indicated a fairly comfortable win for John Kerry – our new poll reveals that, if the caucuses were held today, the reallocated final outcome would be:
The Democratic Party has excellent candidates this presidential cycle. That's why the numbers have been so close. Whether InsiderAdvantage has it right or not,..... we'll only have to wait.....about 24 more hours to find out.
