Empty Suit

By The Reverend Published: August 31, 2012

Mitt Romney took the stage last night in Tampa to accept the GOP's presidential nomination. He also gave a speech. It was, as Charles Babington opines today in a column entitled "Candidate's message requires voter's faith", a "trust me" speech. No real details on how he would make things all better.....just trust him, I guess, because he's trustworthy?...or something?

In reading the speech this morning, I found the closest thing I could find to....well....a plan. Here it is....

Paul Ryan.....Political Fraud

By The Reverend Published: August 30, 2012

The fraud who calls himself Paul Ryan......last night in Tampa....

“You see, even with all the hidden taxes to pay for the health care takeover, even with new taxes on nearly a million small businesses, the planners in Washington still didn’t have enough money. They needed more. They needed hundreds of billions more. So, they just took it all away from Medicare. Seven hundred and sixteen billion dollars, funneled out of Medicare by President Obama. An obligation we have to our parents and grandparents is being sacrificed, all to pay for a new entitlement we didn’t even ask for. The greatest threat to Medicare is Obamacare, and we’re going to stop it.”

Lying AND Race-Baiting

I was away the last 4 days. Even unpaid and misunderstood bloggers need time away.

But now I'm back and the hits will keep on coming. Speaking of....

The Neo-Confederate Immigration Platform

By The Reverend Published: August 24, 2012

In June, the Supreme Court rejected Arizona's new immigration law as unconstitutional. The Court allowed, at least until state courts decide, the "papers please" racial profiling portion of the Arizona law....but struck down all the other provisions as encroachments on federal authority to dictate immigration law.

Kansas Sec. of State, Kris Kobach, is the author of the now-unconstitutional Arizona immigration bill. As such, he introduced the immigration platform plank of the GOP for 2012 a couple of days ago.

Mitt Romney.....Fantasist

By The Reverend Published: August 23, 2012

If you take the time to read about the Mormon faith, you'll realize that Mitt Romney is already used to believing in fantastical stuff. That's fine and all, our nation is chock full of fantastical religious creeds and beliefs.....a product of a nation which guarantees the freedom to exercise religion.

However, the office of the presidency is not served well by fantastical thinking.

Akin-Breakin' GOP

By The Reverend Published: August 22, 2012

What GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin of Missouri offered up as gynocological-psycho-babble the other day is really not the heart of the story. Here's what Akin said that created the call for him to step down from the race against sitting Senator, Claire McCaskill....

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in an interview posted Sunday. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Stopping The "African American Voter-Turnout Machine"

By The Reverend Published: August 21, 2012

..the three days before Election Day, .... nearly 100,000 Ohioans voted in 2008. The Republican-controlled legislature decreed (for 2012) that only active military personnel or their families could cast in-person votes that final Saturday-Monday.

As many of you know, Ohio Republicans have worked hard to cut back on early voting this year.....too costly, we're told. Last week, Ohio's Secretary of State, Jon Husted.....under pressure from voting rights groups and national media outlets....made some concessions....

Details? No Thanks

By The Reverend Published: August 18, 2012

I think this blurb from a Politico interview of Romney campaign people is revealing....

Advisers say the campaign has no plans to pivot from its previous view that diving into details during a general-election race would be suicidal.

No....Both Sides Don't Do It

By The Reverend Published: August 17, 2012

Yesterday I heard Jim Albright on WHLO radio, Fox radio, describe how "both sides do it." Both political parties are equally at fault in the gridlock and fecklessness that voters dislike about today's Congress. The radio anchor from 9-12 AM detailed how non-productive the current Congress has been when it comes to passing legislation.....he referred to the bickering and name calling.....and then declared, without any qualification, that both sides are equally guilty for the mess that we call Washington.

Jim Albright couldn't be further off the mark.

Genuine, Grade-A, Class Warfare

By The Reverend Published: August 16, 2012

I've heard it numerous times in defense of Paul Ryan's budgetary plan to end Medicare as we've known it and replace it with a coupon program. I heard it again yesterday as Romney-Ryan apologists tried to explain how the Republican VP candidate's plan to end Medicare as we know it.....doesn't really (wink, wink) end Medicare.

How could Paul Ryan's plan to end Medicare as we've known it and replace it with a coupon program where senior "choices" are involved.....not really be ending Medicare?

Summer Of Indifference

By The Reverend Published: August 15, 2012

Two huge challenges to our American society have been front and center all summer. Right in our faces. And yet, we as a people are paralyzed from doing anything about these challenges. To this blogger, this paralysis is quite frankly, mind boggling.....verifying what many people have been saying for awhile......that America, truly, is hopelessly broken and in decline.

Man's contribution to global warming.....and the proliferation in the U.S. of military-style weaponry.

Feeding The Always-Hungry Base

By The Reverend Published: August 13, 2012

Once again, a Republican presidential candidate has had to resort to picking a far-right VP to save his candidacy. McCain did it in 2008 by picking the unqualified and barely articulate Sarah Palin. McCain lost by almost 7%.

Now Mitt Romney, unliked by the GOP base and desperately trying to change the subject from his tax returns, weighed down by his klutzy and embarrassing trip overseas and the latest Fox and CNN polls.....has picked another darling of the extreme right to be his running mate. Paul Ryan, Congressman from Wisconsin and author and proud daddy of his name sake, the Ryan Budget.....passed twice by a Tea Party House without one Democratic vote.

Turn Out The Lights

By The Reverend Published: August 11, 2012

According to the latest Fox news poll, Barack Obama now leads Mitt Romney nationally by a 49-40% margin. Worse yet for still-hopeful conservative voters is that independent voters now favor Obama over Romney by 11 percentage points. The polling interviews were conducted August 5th through August 7th. Keep in mind....Fox news is the communications network for the Republican Party.

At CNN, their latest polling gives Barack Obama a 52-45% national lead over Mr. Romney with independent voters choosing Obama by 53%-42%, an 11 point advantage. In May of this year, Romney's unfavorable number among independent voters stood at 40%, now it's at 52%....a 12% increase.

Wheels Coming Off Romney Campaign

By The Reverend Published: August 8, 2012

Fresh off the "you didn't build that" editing abomination by Campaign Romney, a new deception has been launched. It's all Mr. Mormon has left, as Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson argued yesterday when he called for Romney to speak openly during the campaign about his faith. Yeah, that'll help.

The fresh new Romney deception is found in the lines of a new ad....

Romney & His Tax Plan

By The Reverend Published: August 7, 2012

What have I been doing the last 6 days or so that I couldn't blog? I want to explain it all in great detail, release multiple reports on the topic, know...really be transparent.....BUT.....then conservative readers would distort and misinterpret the information I released about the last six days or so....twisting everything up like they always do. And I just can't allow that. The American people deserve better than that.

Therefore, it's the fault of conservative readers, not mine, for not being able to release info detailing The Reverend's activity over the last six days. My philosophy on the topic of transparency concerning the last six days or so of my whereabouts has been shaped by the GOP presidential candidate....

A common theme of conservatives in America today is freedom. The Tea Party subset of the conservative movement is all about freedom. In fact, if you pay close attention to what the Tea conservatives say, it's as if this generation of conservatism has invented freedom.

Freedom means a lot of things to a lot of people. So, at first, when Tea Party members were rallying with teabags hanging down in their faces and dressing up in 18th century clothing with those patriotic tri-corner was a bit difficult to understand what these conservatives meant when they talked so often about freedom.
