Civility A Feature At Tonight's SOTU

By The Reverend Published: February 12, 2013

Back in the day of the Amboy Dukes and then a bit later with songs like Hey Baby and Cat Scratch Fever, guitar player Ted Nugent had something positive to offer society....his wild, loud guitar playing. Nugent was never a big star during the day....never broke into the big leagues of rock and roll like, say, The Black Keys have done today.

In fact, Nugent has actually received more attention and name recognition from media after the arrival of low information officials like Sarah Palin and organizations like the Tea Party then he did during the golden rock years of the late 60's and early 70's.

Here are a few of Nugent's favorite hits....

1994...speaking about Hillary Clinton..."You probably can't use the term `toxic c*nt' in your magazine, but that's what she is. Her very existence insults the spirit of individualism in this country. This bitch is nothing but a two-bit whore for Fidel Castro."

In 2007....I was in Chicago last week. I was in Chicago and said, "Hey, Obama you might want to suck on one of these you punk." Obama, he's a piece of sh*t, and I told him to suck on my machine gun. Let's hear it for him. And then I was in New York. I said, "Hey, Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch. Since I'm in California, how about [Senator] Barbara Boxer [D-CA], she might want to suck on my machine gun. And [Senator] Dianne Feinstein [D-CA], ride one of these you worthless whore. Any questions?

2012...."Because our legislative, judicial and executive branches of government hold the 10th Amendment in contempt, I'm beginning to wonder if it would have been best had the South won the Civil War. Our Founding Fathers' concept of limited government is dead."

April 14, 2012....Nugent addressed an NRA convention and later was visited by the Secret Service for some of the things he said in his address.....

"If that dead Marine isn't worth it to you to demand that the enemies in the White House are ousted, then you probably ought to just move to France. It's that serious. If you don't know that our government is wiping its ass with the Constitution, you're living under a rock someplace....."

"Because I'll tell you this right now: If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year. Why are you laughing? Do you think that's funny? That's not funny at all. I'm serious as a heart attack....."

"Our president, attorney general, our vice president, Hillary Clinton, they're criminals....."

I point this out not because Nugent doesn't have the right the say whatever he damn well pleases....he does. I point this out because Texas Republican Representative, Steve Stockman, has invited Ted Nugent to be his guest at Obama's SOTU address tonight.

“I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama,” said Stockman. “After the Address I’m sure Ted will have plenty to say.”

Again, I could care less if Nugent defiles the House with his presence at the SOTU.

But what I think is worth considering is the fact that a conservative celebrity today can say anything he wants to say in nasty and vulgar criticism of our nation's first black president and those who work for him. Anything. And the critic will be invited to the SOTU and be given eager media attention.

Moreover, Nugent won't just be a guest at tonight's SOTU....oh no. Stating that he is a "force to be reckoned with" and will "dominate" the media after the SOTU, Nugent explained ....

"We know that the president will have the state of the union stacked and jammed with props, children, and victims of violent crime, " Nugent said. "And my friends wanted me to attend to counter that the way that I do: with facts, statistics and common sense and logic and a celebration of self-evident truths. So I will be taking on the media orgy following the State of the Union Address."

Not one GOP response to Obama's speech tonight. Not two responses to the SOTU tonight......but instead, three. Marco Polo Rubio, representing the Republican Party, Rand Paul, representing the Tea Party insurrectionists....and Terrible Ted Nugent, representing the 'we've lost our effing minds' wing of the GOP.

That's how many Republican representatives it takes to cover the broad, exciting, sometimes breathtaking, yet often delusional, opinions of today's Grand Old Party.
